Because All Students Need

Social and Emotional Learning (SEL)

What is SEL

The Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning (CASEL) works to make evidence-based SEL a core part of every student's education, from preschool through high school. We do that through research, hands-on support for implementation, and long-term partnerships with states, districts, and education leaders.

CASEL offers solutions to educators’ most pressing issues

  • Absenteeism & Attendance

When students miss school, the effects show up in reading, grades, test scores, and graduation rates. SEL works on the root cause — building classrooms and schools where students genuinely want to be.

  • Supporting Academic Instruction

SEL and academics are not a trade-off. SEL creates the conditions students need in order to learn, and everyday academic instruction is a natural place to practice social and emotional skills.
